Terms of service
What you get when you pay, what you own, and what happens when something goes wrong.

The service
Setpiece is run by Setpiece Render Inc., a British Columbia company ("we"). It makes 3D stills and animations of your products from the print files you upload, guided by your written brief. A render is charged when you start it. Its price covers reading your files and building new objects, a preview with 2 adjustments, the final render in every format you picked, and 1 revision. Each account's first animation is free for up to 5 objects and 15 seconds, with its 4K still. Anything beyond that, such as more objects, more seconds or a setting, costs what it usually does.
Accounts and teams
You need an account to start a render, and you must be at least 16. Credits, products and renders belong to a workspace. Owners run the workspace and its team, editors make renders and spend its credits, and reviewers look and comment. You're responsible for what happens under your account and for the people you invite. If you sign up for a business, you accept these terms for it and confirm you're allowed to.
Prices, plans and credits
Every price is shown in credits before you spend them. 1 credit = US$1. Credits come with a monthly plan, which renews automatically each month, on the date you subscribed, at the plan's price until you cancel. Prices are before tax: sales tax, GST/HST or VAT is added to each payment where it applies, and shown before you pay. Bigger plans add bonus credits, which have no cash value.
You can change, pause (for up to 3 months) or cancel your plan at any time on the Credits page. Moving up a plan charges the difference at once and adds the difference in credits at once; moving down takes effect at your next charge. A cancellation takes effect at the end of the month you've paid for, and nothing more is charged.
Unused credits roll over from month to month while your plan lasts, paused or not. When a plan ends, the credits it gave that you haven't used are removed. Credits from your plan are used before any others. Top-ups, and credits bought as packs before plans, never expire.
What can add to a price
Each of these is shown before you pay: an animation longer than 15 seconds (1 credit a second more, up to 20 seconds), a setting such as a desk or a café table (3 credits for a still, 10 credits for an animation), a new object we build from scratch (19 credits, once; it then stays in your library), a bigger scene and a bigger upload.
A scene of more than 5 objects costs 1 credit more for every 2 objects over, counted up to 100. A deck or a sheet of tokens counts as one object, or as one per 10 pieces in shots that move pieces one by one. For new files, a bigger scene's extra is asked at the 3D check, before we build the shot, when it comes to 5 credits or more; less than that, the price you paid holds.
An upload of more than 20 files costs more, by its number of files, as listed on the pricing page.
Refunds
If a render fails on our side, its credits return to your balance automatically. If you cancel before the preview is delivered, they return too. After that, they don't.
Unused paid credits can be refunded in cash, to the card you paid with, within 14 days of purchase: write to support@setpiecerender.com. Bonus credits aren't refunded, and a payment's paid credits count as spent before its bonus credits. This doesn't limit any rights you have under consumer law.
If you live in the EU or the UK, you can withdraw from a purchase within 14 days, and the refund of unused paid credits above is how you do it. Starting a render asks us to begin it at once, so you can't withdraw from a render once its preview is delivered.
Revisions and redos
Each render includes 1 revision. Each revision or preview adjustment after the included ones is 1 credit per 10 objects in the scene, at least 1 credit for a still and 2 credits for an animation, shown on the button before you click.
If text or art in a render doesn't match your files, we redo it free, up to twice per render, without using a revision.
Your files and your renders
You keep all rights to the files you upload. You own the renders we deliver and may use them commercially, without a watermark. You let us store, copy and process your files only to make, deliver and support your renders.
You confirm you have the rights to the files you upload. We may refuse work that breaks our content policy.
Closing an account
You can delete your account in Settings at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the content policy, and we'll tell you why unless the law or someone's safety stops us.
Unused credits aren't refunded when an account closes, apart from the refunds above. If we close your account without a breach on your part, or stop offering Setpiece, we'll give you 30 days to download your renders and refund your unused paid credits.
What we promise, and what we don't
We make each render with care and keep the promises in these terms: failed renders refunded, text and art that don't match your files redone free, and the refunds above. Beyond those, and as far as the law allows, Setpiece comes as it is: we don't promise it will always be available or free of mistakes, or that a render will suit a particular purpose. Renders are made with AI, so check each one before you print or publish it, above all its text, prices and safety markings.
Liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, sales, data or goodwill, and our total liability for all claims about Setpiece is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$100 if that's more.
Nothing in these terms limits a liability the law doesn't let us limit, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or takes away rights you have under consumer law.
If someone makes a claim against us because of files you uploaded or how you used a render, such as art you didn't have the rights to, you'll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, as far as the law allows.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Setpiece changes; the date at the top shows the version in force. If a change is worse for you, a plan's price included, we'll email each workspace's owners at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel your plan before then.
Governing law and disputes
If something goes wrong, write to support@setpiecerender.com first: we'll try to settle it with you within 30 days, before either of us goes to court.
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of British Columbia decide disputes. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protections of the law where you live, and can bring a claim in your local courts.
General
These terms, the privacy policy, the content policy and our confidentiality promise are the whole agreement between us about Setpiece. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term at once doesn't waive it. We may transfer these terms to a company that takes over Setpiece, and we'll tell you if we do.
